Dom,

Nice effect! I especially like the shadow on the magnifying glass initially. It really gives it that 3D effect. I take it that you simply have a mask around the outside of the magnifying glass for this effect. It would be really cool if you could actually zoom a little (magnify) the image below. I'm sure you could using a second image.

I don't know that I would use this for a whole slideshow, but it certainly would be an excellent effect to put in certain places.

Nice work (as always)!

Fred,

Thank you for you comments.

Actually, the magnifying glass is the combination of four masks :

- the magnifying glass itself (with a 20% opacity black layer around it).

- the magnifying glass shadow

- the reflect on the glass (note that the reflect doesn't rotate when the magnifying glass does)

- the second reflect on the glass (visible when the magnifying glass is above the picture but almost transparent when it comes closer)

Those 4 objects have the same father object (PTE frame) to manage the pan but they have their own keypoints too.

As far as I know, it's impossible to zoom (magnify) the image below right now but it will be without any problem with version 5.1 and its "Masks for objects" feature (see http://www.picturestoexe.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=6679 and http://www.picturestoexe.com/forums/index....st&p=43900).

Next version of this demo in 6 months. ;)

With the incredible new mask feature of v5.6, here is the v2 of this demo with a "real" magnifying glass effect.

Your Version 2 is fun and excellent quality. I can see it might be useful for some presentations. I also think it might be more useful with some additions. In Lin's Maskdemo, the magnifying glass enlarges the view under the glass. The enlarged area appears less clear than the overall photo. In your demo, the image under the glass becomes very focused but does not appear larger. Can a template be made which would offer both options individually and together? It seems to me, that most useful would be for the passing glass to both magnify (enlarge) and retain original clear definition.

Thank you for your work that you share.

Hi Dom,

This is a great effect. Might you be producing a template that we can all use?

Actually, the image under the glass already appears larger : + 30%.

That's what I called "real" magnifying glass.

But I can increase this ratio even more. :)

Hi Bob,

Actually, there is magnification on theDom's version - perhaps you looked at the earlier version where the original images was blurred then became clear as the magnifying glass passed over?

What happens is that with masking whatever image you have within the mask will be revealed whether it is "clear" or "focused" depends entirely on the image used within the mask and really has nothing of substance to do with the mask itself. The mask simply "reveals" what lies beneath.

Though it might be "possible" to create a template, it probably wouldn't be as useful as with others because the "position" of the underlying photos (the one revealed) must be adjusted to suit the subject matter.

In theDoms earlier version he intentionally blurred the original subject then in the area of the glass the original focused image was revealed. In the second demo with masking he preserves the blurred original but slightly magnifies the image revealed within the glass.

In my demo, the image magnified "shouldn't" be less defined than the original in any way. If it appears that way on your monitor, something must not be right since the identical image was used for both - just reduced in size outside the masked area.

Here's a couple downloads to see how this is done:

I've decompiled this demo and found that project file is damaged. It really interesting why it works sometimes. I'll write to Lin about this problem. So we need to wait to test reworked EXE file.

Hi Michel,

As Igor discovered, a corrupted PTE file which on some systems produced this problem but not on all. I have redone the demos and posted under same file names. Please try the new ones and let me know if they work normally for you.

Best regards,

Lin

Hi Michel,

Yes, perhaps a bug discovered. We must wait for Igor to look at my new PTE files. Do you have the problem both with the executable and with the PTE file? Could you list the files you find inside the zip to be certain that all files are being included?

Best regards,

Lin

I've found the reason of this problem. Container and Mask objects have enabled "Mipmapping" option in these two slideshows (TheDom's demo has not). It's mistake of beta version because user can't turn on this option for Masks. So we'll publish Beta 4 with the fix tomorrow.

Hi Michel,

I have removed the mipmapping request from the executable and PTE files so they "should" work for you on the original links now. Let me know if you can run them...

Best regards,

Lin
