fh1805
Am I seeing things?I was using v5.5 beta 1 to build a new sequence and had included in it the slide and the associated object that I've included in the zip file attached to this post. When I "Play" within O&A or Preview, I think I see the central image rotate left to a stop - and then slowly rotate a degree or two back to the right. It's programmed to rotate only to the left.Is it my eyes?Is it my graphics card?Does anybody else see this effect?I've checked the sequence out with v5.1, v5.5 beta 1 and v5.5 beta2. It behaves exactly the same in all versions.Rotate_test_Apr10_2008_12_18_32.zip
Ken Cox
Petergoes back to right on my 5-5-2 as welldid not the first time i ran it - but running it again it rotates slightly right at endken
cjdnzl
It appears to do that to me as well, but I think it is an optical illusion. I put a marker on my screen and watched the disc stop, noting where it was in relation to the marker, and looking just at the marker, the disc did not move.I've seen other illusions showing the same effect, one was a series of serrated circles, and when one stared at the central one, the others appeared to rotate slowly. I was intrigued enough to print the image, but strangely, I couldn't see the effect in the print at all, so I concluded that it seems to be a function of the screen scanning, or similar.I did note that in O&A your image didn't have any keypoints, but the rotation happened without them anyway. Queer!Colin
fh1805
Colin,The keypoints are on the "Dome" object not the main image.Ken/Colin,Thanks for reassuring me that I don't need to seek medical attention!
denwell
PeterI don't think you need stronger glasses !I believe it's an optical illusion too. I've had it happen to me when one's eyes get used to a rotating object which stops suddenly. The eye seems to compensate for this sudden stop of motion and the object appears to 'backtrack' for a moment. But keep taking the pills just in case!DEN (NEUK)
fh1805
Den,I don't mind the world spinning after I've had a glass or several of "loopy juice" - but when things started spinning while I was sober - that got me worried! frets3
Hi, Peter,I tried your rotating dome and also noticed a rightward rotation near the end. Intrigued, I enabled keyboard control and noticed the same phenomenon during the dome's descent each time that I manually stopped rotation with the shift key. At the risk of presumption, I would guess that our brains are similarly wired. Thanks for the diversion.David
Lin Evans
LOL - the answer is "yes" it's "seeing things". This is a very common issue with our eyes, brains, etc. The rotation absolutely stops but our "perception" is that it reverses. In reality is does not reverse at all but stops exactly as programmed. If you really want to test it, take the image into your graphics editor and temporarily place a line on it for reference then as previously suggested mark a corresponding place on your monitor when you see the rotation end. They will stay aligned even though you would "swear" it was reversing at the end of the animation.Best regards,LinAm I seeing things?I was using v5.5 beta 1 to build a new sequence and had included in it the slide and the associated object that I've included in the zip file attached to this post. fh1805
Thanks for all the responses folks.I guess this is just another reason why it's good practice to extend a PZR effect all the way through the transition into the next image. I've just done this in the sequence that I'm building and it has completely hidden the "backspin".
JPD
I had often the same problem with rotate and also with pan and especially zoom, but always with templates very difficult, the effect continue. I had this even on beta of V5. So I don't think your eyes are bad, it's a real thing which happens sometimes, not your brain neither (I film my screen a long time ago to be sure). In my slideshow "Fantaisies florales" it's seem to be the same with a triangle rotating, but it's an optical effect there. For your exemple, it's also an optical effect. Lin Evans
Here's proof for you - you can't always trust your eyes or brain. Even though the lines match perfectly and stay that way on the separate objects - it "seems" to rotate backward. In reality, it doesn't.http://www.lin-evans.net/pte/rotatetest.zipBest regards,Lin
