Portable sound systems

Hi All

I take my shows on the W.I. circuit for Charity and need to replace my sound system. I am looking for something that can handle an audience of say 80 but is compact in one box with its own amplifier and will connect to my Lap top via the Headphone Socket. Does anybody have any recommendations for UK purchase?

Thanks

Mike Reed

Hi Ken,

Think the correct link you wanted was http://www.digital-av.co.uk/sound-loudspeakers.htm

Your first link points to an old site with 2006 International pictures

Mike:

I use the Peavey Escort system here

I had a small boom box which worked fine until I showed up to a presentation that was supposed to be for 25 and 150 attended.

The next day I went looking for a replacement.

It is certainly bigger (and more costly) than the Aego M speakers that comes up in the link Ken gave associated with Maureen.

I haven't seen the Aego Ms in action but I understand they are fine and VERY compact.

The Peavey gives me total flexibility for any size crowd, and everything comes in a wheeled case.

Our Camera Club (150 members regularly attend meetings) use a similar Fender system. It has slightly better sound than the Peavey, BUT it is not on wheels and the speaker stands are not contained in the case and have to be carried separately.

Just another option.....

Yes the Aego 2 Speakers are still highly recommended :D:D:D and used by many AV Groups and Festivals in the UK.

We used them for the RPS IRIS-25 Festival weekend and I am sure Mike has seen them in use when he has visited Aldbourne, including the last RPS Distinctions Day there.

but it is always usefull for Forum members to have more info on what is available worldwide.

Always great to share knowledge.

Hope this has helped Mike?

Best wishes to you and all at Mid-Thames & hope to see you at the Internationals in September?

Anyone else planning to attend Cirencester this year ?

See you there !

Mike originally asked for ...............

Peavey's website indicated a strong UK presence through manufacturing facilities etc . Guess my assumption of the availability of the Escort in the UK was incorrect

For small audiences like you describe, I have found my Logitec Z-10 USB speakers very effective. They will fit in a briefcase, and the sound quality is great. Very handy - can control sound volume from the laptop as well as the touch-screen on one speaker. Also economical, especially for the sound quality - I paid around $140 CDN for mine at Costco. You will need a USB cable extension, though, in order to position the speakers where you want them in relation to the laptop.

As an added advantage, because all the information from the laptop to the speakers is digital (USB), this solution eliminates noise picked up from the screen, or an inferior laptop sound card, a problem that pestered me to no end with two of my laptops.
