I have goofed up and could use your assistance. I am working on a large genealogical slide show with multiple segments.

I did segment one and saved it as a Picture to Exe project file. I then did segment two separately in PTE and saved it as a Picture to Exe project file. My plan was to open segment one and then open segment two and add it to the tail end of segment one. I can open segment two, but it will replace segment one. Catch 22, I can't get there from here.

Is there some way short of just doing segment two all over again that I can add segment two to the end of segment one and then save both under one file name?

I would appreciate any assistance you might be able to give me.

Hi Jim,

Open segment two, go to the main slides and select all the slides (click on slide one then go the last slide, hold down the shift key and click on the last slide) then right click and choose "copy" do not close segment two.

Next open segment one, go to the main slide list and put your cursor below the last slide, right click and "paste". This will add segment two to segment one.

All slides, animations, etc., will be added but not sound. You will have to manually add sound to the segment two portion.

Save the file under a different name - use "save as" - very important. Save under a different name and you will have a new show containing all slides from segment one and segment two. You will only then have to put your sound file in for segment two just as you did in the segment two original.

Thanks for the reply Lin,

I am afraid that my problem is deeper. I do not have image holding files for the two segments; so I cannot open any files in the upper section of PTE, cannot copy and cannot paste. Is there any hope?

Hi Jim,

I'm not clear on what it is that you have lost. Do you have separate PTE files for the two segments? Have you made executable slideshows for each segment yet? If so do you have those executable files?

I'm unclear on what you mean by "image holding files". Just so we are on the same page; PicturesToExe creates a file with the extension .pte which consists of instructions and "pointers" to allow the program to create an executable slideshow or play back and/or modify a slideshow. The PTE file doesn't contain the images themselves but rather the "instructions" for the computer to find the images on your hard disk or other media and manipulate these images with the PicturesToExe code.

So have you lost the PTE file for one of your segments or have you lost an executable file or have you lost or overwritten data? Once I clearly understand what's going on I think it will be possible to provide a solution or at least a definitive answer.

Jim,

Take a look at the FAQs on PTE Usage in the Tutorials and Articles section of the forum. There's a detailed one on copying slides from show to show.

Peter
