JEB Posted December 9, 2008 Report Posted December 9, 2008 Igor,Just a small point but something that I guess would be relatively simple to implement and could save much time and frustration at a period of HIGH tension! When backing up to zip recently, PTE gave me a couple of warnings that I had used “two or more files with the same names, but located in different folders”. Great! My fault, I admit that, but easily done when working on large complicated shows. The warning directed me to the locations of these files on my PC - but not on which slide they were being used. Fortunately on this occasion I was able to guess where to look (as objects on certain rather complicated slides). If it can so easily do the former can it not also tell in which slides to look?May not be as simple as I think but if it is it could be worth implementing at some point.RegardsJohn Quote

LumenLux Posted December 10, 2008 Report Posted December 10, 2008 JEBcould you not make a template, then zp it?kenI think Ken, with the conditions described, PTE won't allow a template nor a zip file creation. I think with your standard workflow, with all slides gathered in the same folder, you avoid the condition. But the way I work (and maybe JEB), I run into exactly what he describes. Even when one follows your protocol it is quite easy to forget to bring every late-breaking inspiration into the folder instead of just into the show while the creative juices are flowing. So I think if Igor could implement the suggestion it would often be a benefit. I know I was helping a new user who was making a travel show with several hundred slides. His camera was set so that every time he inserted a new memory card, the numbering started over! So his initial work in PTE ended up with numerous duplicate image numbers and the helpful message by PTE was not enough for him to know where to begin. Quote
JEB Posted December 10, 2008 Author Report Posted December 10, 2008 Ken, LumenLux,I saw Ken's post late last night, slept on it, as I suspected what you, LumenLux, said was likely to be the case. I was going to look, reluctantly, at the template option this morning but have decided to let that pass as I actually much prefer the zip option in any event.I do try to keep a file discipline, however on this occasion I am working with many hundreds of images from seven different people (cameras) and as you say "when the creative juices are flowing" you get carried away. The bit about "creative juices" has done my ego no harm - it's set me up for the day!Hopefully Igor will take note!RegardsJohn Quote
Ken Cox Posted December 10, 2008 Report Posted December 10, 2008 Johnif my memory serves me right the template takes all the components of the active show and puts them all in one folderthink that is the way all my templates work try it -- you are not out anything - just timemine are located hereC:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\PicturesToExe\Templatesken Quote
xahu34 Posted December 10, 2008 Report Posted December 10, 2008 ...The warning directed me to the locations of these files on my PC - but not on which slide they were being used....John,As a workaround: If you know the folders, then try the "Synchronize directories" command of Total Commander using appropriate parameters. This program is not free, but if you accept the nag screen at start up ...Regards,Xaver Quote
