Guest Techman1
Tom Court,I downloaded two of your PTE shows regarding Photoshop and saw several cool transitions/actions that you use. One of the Actions (maybe it isn't an Action?) you use makes the photo's look like a comic strip type image. Can you advise where you located this? I have a project with some young children and would like to create some images like the ones you have in your shows. Thanks in advance and I enjoyed viewing your work!Fred
Guest guru
Fred, I think your question is not clear enough... What does it mean that an effect "makes the photo's look like a comic strip type image"?
Ken Cox
Fred, i think Tom has just used the various filters in his graphic program and applied them in sequence to one pict in the one show -- it is an experiment with limits set by the author -- quite fasinating and it shows what is available in the part 2 show of Tom's photoshop's effectsevery graphics program has it's own set - i just whipped up a little show and used some of the filters available in Irfanview, paintshop pro and mgi photosuite -- they all have different ones -- didnt fire up Adobe, there is only so much time ken
Guest Techman1
Guido and Ken,Thanks for responding. I wasn't sure, but now believe that he runs at least one Filter possibly more to get this effect. I just wasn't sure if he downloaded this/those filter(s) or if it was something standard in Photoshop. I've tried a few of the PS filters and can't seem to get the same effect that he has. It's really no big deal, I was just hoping that Tom might visit this site periodically and would know what I was asking. Thanks to both of you for trying to help.Take care,Fred
Ken Cox
Fredsee if you can get a rise out him -- drop him a line and maybe he will share his secret with ustomcourt@ntlworld.combut you piqued my interest and i started adobe 6 -- try filters/artistic/poster edges for startersken
Tomuk
Hi! All, Well it's taken me a while to finaly read this post and needless to say I will be only to pleased to explain the Hows and whens, but I do need a bit more info on the effect you are after. If it's the one I think you mean, and I arrive at this conclusion becouse you can't find it in Photoshops filter and effects, it's this:-You will need a graphics tablet (mine is a Wacom et-0405-u), open up the image to be minipulated in Photoshop, add a new layer and fill it with white, drop the opacity down untill the underneath image can just be seen, with your new layer being active, choose the paint brush tool and take a small hard edged brush, make your foreground colour black and with your pen and tablet start to trace your photo. When you are satisfied, bring your layer opacity back to 100% and start to hand colour your new image, to add to the effect you can use the eraser tool (using your touch sensative pen) to bring back as much or as little of the underlying image as your creative urge allows.I hope this has been of some help?, if not please e-mail me.Tom
Guest Techman1
Tom,Thanks for replying. I don't have a tablet yet so I'll have to wait to try out your method. I was really hoping that there was some easier method than to manually hand paint each image. I really like what you've done on your images. Your hand painting method really makes these look very cool.I found another method of using a combination of levels, multiple filters and layers that gets fairly close to what you are doing (not nearly as good though) but is much simpler. I guess I'll use this method until something else comes along.Anyway, thanks for responding I truly appreciate it. Good luck and I look forward to seeing Photoshop #3 of your series (if you continue).Regards,Fred
